Spanish company Ingeteam plans to deploy battery energy storage system in Italy

Spanish inverter manufacturer Ingeteam has announced plans to deploy a 70MW/340MWh battery energy storage system in Italy, with a delivery date of 2023.
Ingeteam, which is based in Spain but operates globally, said the battery storage system, which will be one of the largest in Europe with a duration of almost five hours, will open in 2023 operation.
The project will meet peak demand for electricity and serve the Italian grid primarily by participating in the wholesale electricity market.
Ingeteam says the battery storage system will contribute to the decarbonisation of the Italian power system, and its deployment plans are outlined in the PNIEC (National Energy and Climate Plan 2030) recently approved by the Italian government.
The company will also supply containerized lithium-ion battery energy storage systems including Ingeteam-branded inverters and controllers, which will be assembled and commissioned on site.

“The project itself represents the transition of energy to a model based on renewable energy, in which energy storage systems play an important role,” said Stefano Domenicali, general manager of Ingeteam’s Italy region.
Ingeteam will provide fully integrated containerized battery storage units, each equipped with cooling systems, fire detection and fire protection systems, and battery inverters. The installed capacity of each battery energy storage unit is 2.88MW, and the energy storage capacity is 5.76MWh.
Ingeteam will also provide inverters for 15 power stations as well as supporting solar power facility inverters, controllers and SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) systems.
The company recently delivered a 3MW/9MWh battery storage system for Spain’s first solar+storage project in the Extramadura region, and was installed in a solar farm in a co-location manner, which means that the inverter of the battery storage system The inverter and the solar power facility inverter can share the connection to the grid.
The company has also deployed a large-scale battery energy storage system project at a wind farm in the UK, namely a 50MWh battery energy storage system at the Whitelee Wind Farm in Scotland. The project has already been delivered in 2021.
